Here's to starting 2010 off on the right foot. After a month of laboring furiously I've finally finished my latest project: Grammy-award winner Kelly Rowland's new website. A big thanks to my partner-in-crime Mike Dizon for managing the project and Arun Kale for the development help.

I managed to close out 2009 with a bang and start 2010 with continued momentum. On January 1st, 2010 I launched Kelly Rowland’s brand new website. The turnaround on this was fast and I couldn’t have it done without Mike Dizon managing the project on our end and Arun Kale for stepping up to the plate with development help on the back-end.

Her fans and related blogs have already picked up on it and with her new album release coming later this year we’re all rooting for her in 2010. Congrats and enjoy the website, Kelly!

Spam is a problem for everybody. For some it’s a minor annoyance, for others it can be a real detriment to getting work done. I’ve been using Entourage (the Macintosh equivalent to Outlook) in one form or another since October 2000 when it was released as part of Office 2001. Its spam catching ability has always been pretty sketch, although it’s gotten progressively better since it’s inception. However, in many instances it’s either too aggressive (putting legitimate emails from trusted senders in the junk folder) or not aggressive enough, letting everything slip past.

After trying a number of different third party solutions I tried SpamSieve, from C-Command Software. It’s a Bayesian spam filtering system for a number of different Mac email clients. Since using it in mid October it’s been chewing through all kinds of junk email I’ve been getting. According to their website:

SpamSieve actually gets better over time as it adapts to your mail. By learning from the very messages that you receive, SpamSieve is able to block nearly all of your junk mail, without putting your good messages in the spam mailbox.

After using it for a few months I have to agree. According to its statistics it’s 98% accurate, which is orders of magnitude more accurate than Entourage’s own spam fighting system ever was. Since I’m not around my computer a lot of the time I count on my BlackBerry to keep me in the loop and not having it get filled with garbage has been a nice change.

For only $30 and with support for Apple Mail, Emailer, Entourage, Eudora, GyazMail, Mailsmith, Outlook Express, PowerMail and Thunderbird it’s a great investment.

In an ongoing attempt to clean up the detritus in every aspect of my life I’ve been going through my computer trying to do a little bit of house keeping. That’s when I stumbled up on this gem. My dad had forwarded it to me a few months ago when he was cleaning out the old family computer.

I believe I had created this for some sort of venture of mine (I had many back in the day, including a lawn-mowing business and a snow-blowing business). Notice the tie between the bear and the name of my company. Also note the awesome tag line: “No job too small, no bill too large”. I’m sure that alone would have totally made you want to hire me.

As you can probably tell, my design skills haven’t gone anywhere since I created this gem (thanks a lot art school *shakes fist*) and that’s why I’m currently trying out to be a Starbucks Barista. Wish me luck.

One of those clients was Ben & Jerry’s. I got to work on three campaigns for them, and one of those was for their launch of the Flipped Out! Sundae. I created some slick rich media stuff but one of the cooler aspects was doing the creative for their Facebook page, working with the guys from FlipMyText to create a fun little app that flipped any text you entered upside down and then allowed to you push that text to your Facebook status.

It was such a hit that it got featured on Mashable, which was especially cool for me. I’m a bit late with this post (ok, real late) but still, Mashable! The copy was done by the ever-talented Evan Rosler. Check it out!
